The Artist Behind Lilindigotattoo

Taylor is a Winnipeg-based tattoo artist specializing in blackwork florals, fauna, and fantasy-inspired designs. With 8 years of experience in the industry, her work is known for its striking style, bold symbolism, and deeply personal touch.

She began her tattooing journey in Toronto, Ontario, apprenticing under Cysen at Golden Iron. The fast-paced street shop taught her invaluable skills and set the foundation for the career that would follow.

Now working independently in Winnipeg, Taylor is celebrated for her clean, creative work and her refreshingly authentic social media presence. She prioritizes client comfort in every session — one way she fosters that trust is by being open about her own story. From mental health struggles and chronic illness (including her endometriosis and adenomyosis diagnoses and a life-changing hysterectomy) to snapshots of her sweet dog Zero and her favorite adventures — nothing is off the table. Her vulnerability creates space for her clients to feel safe, seen, and supported.

In addition to her calm bedside manner, Taylor is known for her highly recognizable floral work and imaginative flash pieces. Her designs are so beloved that flash tattoos now make up around 90% of her bookings.

FAQs

    • How do I book an appointment?

I open my books for flash every 3-4 months. I will announce a date here and on Instagram for when my books open. On that date you can send an email to taylorschmidartistry@gmail.com with

    • the flash you’re interested in booking/corresponding number

    • The size (in inches)

    • The placement (with photos of your body for reference)

    • You’re preferred availability (I can’t always accommodate but I will try my best)

    • Do you accept walk-ins?

    No.

    • How far in advance do you book?

I book roughly 2.5-3.5 months in advance.

    • How much do your tattoos cost? Do you charge by hour or by piece?

I charge by piece and am happy to give a price quote range over email if you can send me the details of the piece you’re interested in. (be sure to include size in inches and placement in your request) My day rate is 900-1100 plus tax for a full day of tattooing (4.5-5.5 hours roughly)

    • What forms of payment do you accept?

I take cash payment at the shop and etransfer for deposits.

    • Is a deposit required? Is it refundable?

A deposit is required to book an appointment. Details will be given over email at the time of booking. No, deposits are not refundable. Typically deposits are $100 but may be more if the piece is larger.

    • What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel?

You are allowed one free reschedule with 1 weeks notice. After that if you reschedule a second time you will need to put down a new deposit. If you cancel last minute a new deposit will be required to rebook you.

    • Do you do custom tattoos or only pre-drawn flash?

I am currently only booking flash designs (I drop new flash every 2-3 months). My flash covers a variety of sizes, designs and imagery which my clients really enjoy.

I also occasionally take on rework tattoos. (Fixing clients old tattoos done by other artists by adding balance, contrast and new details to the design) I will announce on my instagram when I am available for those projects.

I will also sometimes allow for custom bookings for random free spaces in my calendar/last minute openings. If I have a last minute availability it will be posted on my channel on Instagram which you are welcome to follow. (The link is in my bio)

    • Can I make changes to a flash design?

No. Flash designs are taken as if but you can always change the size or fix the design to accommodate certain placements. (Though most flash pieces will have a minimum size put in the description to accommodate details and allow for proper healing so keep that in mind)

    • How should I prepare for my tattoo session?

Please come to your appointment well rested and showered. It’s best that you eat something before your appointment and also bring a snack and some water along with you. Avoid drinking alcohol the night before your appointment. You may also bring along with you, comfy layers or clothing, headphones or a book to keep yourself entertained or even a small pillow or blanket if you’d like.

    • What should I wear?

Please wear something comfortable with easy access to the area being tattooed. If you have any questions as to what clothing items work best for what placements feel free to send me an email and I’d be happy to help.

    • Can I bring a friend with me?

I prefer my clients come alone as the tattoo room I work in is rather small but if you need someone with you 1 guest is fine as long as they are kind and respectful.

    • Can I eat or drink during the appointment?

Yes! I encourage my clients to say hydrated during their appointment and take snack breaks as needed. (I too need water and snack breaks)

    • What if I’m feeling unwell or sick?

Please cancel or reschedule if you are sick. The body’s immune system can only handle so much and a tattoo when sick could cause poor healing. We also don’t want to spread any sickness to other tattooers or clients so it’s best to stay home when you’re unwell.

    • Can I get tattooed if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. It’s best to wait until you are completely finished breastfeeding.

    • What if I have a medical condition?

Please let me know of any medical conditions that could impact your ability to get tattooed. In some cases I may request you get the okay from your doctor before getting tattooed.

    • How do I take care of my new tattoo?

    Second Skin

    • Leave second skin on for 2-3 days (if bandage peels up on its own to expose the tattoo or if you develop a skin reaction please remove)

    • note blood, ink and plasma under the bandage is completely normal

    • once the recommended time is up remove the second skin in the shower, allow warm water to run over it while you slowly pull from a corner. (Treat it like removing a command strip)

    • Once the bandage is off give your tattoo a wash with clean hands. Only use unscented soap and warm water.

    • Pat dry your tattoo with plain paper towel and leave it alone.

    • After few days if your tattoo is particularly dry or itchy you may use a small amount of unscented moisturizer to soothe the skin.

    Regular wrap

    • Remove the plastic wrap after 2-6 hours and give your tattoo a wash with clean hands. Only use unscented soap and warm water for this

    • After you’ve washed your tattoo pat it dry with plain paper towel.

    • Continue to wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day until it’s healed.

    • 2-3 days after your appointment , if your tattoo is dry or itchy you may also use a thin layer of unscented moisturizer to soothe the skin.

    General advice

    • Avoid excessive sweating and work outs for 1-2 weeks. If you do sweat, wash your tattoo with unscented soap immediately after.

    • No swimming or baths until your tattoo is healed. You may shower like normal but with only unscented products coming into contact with the tattoo itself.

    • Keep your healing tattoo out of the sun. (Do not use sunscreen on your tattoo until it’s fully healed)

    • Do you provide aftercare instructions?

Yes! You will be provided with an aftercare package with the above instructions after your tattoo is completed.

    • What kind of bandage/wrap do you use?

I use both second skin and regular wrap depending on the tattoo, the size of the piece , the placement and the clients individual allergies.

    • Where are you located?

I am located at Last Stand tattoo on Henderson hwy. (note this is an appointment only shop, we do not take walk ins and doors are locked outside of letting pre booked clients inside)

    • Do you tattoo minors (under 18)?

    No.

    • Do you offer touch-ups? Are they included in the price?

I offer free touch ups if the client lets me know within 4 months following their initial tattoo appointment. After that time period touch ups cost $100.

Mentorship with @lilindigotattoo

Real talk. Practical help. Honest insight into the tattoo industry (the good, the bad, and the ugly) I can help.

This is NOT an apprenticeship.

This is mentorship. 1:1 guidance, feedback, and insight from my lived experience in the tattoo industry. I do not teach the technical skill of tattooing (needle depth, machine setup, etc.), nor am I taking on an apprentice at this time.

Mentorship is a one-time or occasional meeting meant to support you with:

  • Portfolio feedback

  • Career and branding advice

  • Navigating the industry realistically and sustainably

(If you're looking for an apprenticeship, I recommend connecting with studios that are offering that.)

  • If you're passionate about tattooing/ think this could potentially be the industry for you or if you’re curious about how to build a career rooted in authenticity, and true client care my program may be the right fit for you. I’m open to mentoring artists at all levels. As long as you are serious, open to constructive feedback and respectful, I’m happy to help where I can.

  • Each session is different, but we can dive into topics like:

    • Portfolio review + honest feedback

    • Building a brand that reflects who you are

    • Client experience and retention

    • Navigating chronic illness or burnout in a demanding industry

    • Creating sustainability in a shifting economy

    • Staying true to yourself in an industry full of noise

    • The financial side of tattooing (taxes, retirement, budgeting, setting rates and planning for slow seasons)

I don’t sugarcoat things. If you're looking for a real conversation about this career path, both the challenges and the rewards, you’ll find that with me.

  • ✦ One-on-One Mentorship Session

We’ll meet in person (in Winnipeg) for 1–2 hours. Coffee shop, or studio, whatever feels right. We’ll chat through your questions, (best to have some written down) review your portfolio, and I’ll offer grounded advice from my lived experience in the industry. I’ll also provide some optional simple  worksheets or exercises you can take home with you.

✦ Optional Shadow Day (only available after a mentorship session)

If you’d like to observe how I run my day at the shop - from client interactions to bedside manner, you’re welcome to book a shadow day after your first session. This is a behind-the-scenes look (not hands-on training) but a chance to see how I navigate a day at work.

  • Because I know how hard this industry can be to access (especially when you’re starting out, chronically ill, or financially stretched) I’m offering a flexible rate.

    One-on-one session (1–2 hours):

    -$100–$200 sliding scale
Choose a rate within this range that feels right and fair for you. (I want to meet you where you’re at while still valuing my time and knowledge)

    Optional Shadow Day:
-$50 flat rate (invite only - available after a mentorship session)

  • If this sounds like something you need, send me a message at taylorschmidartistry@gmail.com with the subject line being “Mentorship Inquiry”

    Include:

    • A little about you

    • Where you're at in your art journey

    • What you’re hoping to get from mentorship

    • Why this matters to you

I offer a limited number of sessions during the month and prioritize people who show genuine curiosity, self-motivation, and passion for the craft.

  • Q: Can I learn how to tattoo from you?

No. this is mentorship, not an apprenticeship. I do not offer technical tattoo training. A tattoo apprenticeship takes years and I’m not able to take anything like that on at this time.

Q: Do I need a polished portfolio to reach out?

Nope. Come as you are. Whether you're currently building one or already working but feeling a bit lost, I’m happy to help.

Q: Can I message you after with questions?

Absolutely! if you have a few follow-ups later, I’m happy to answer. Ongoing mentorship or a second session can always be booked later down the line if needed.

    Q: Is this available online?

Not right now. My preference is to do these types of meetings face to face so I can really get a sense of you and your personality.
